AGARTALA: In a joint press briefing held at the Junu Das Bhavan in Agartala, representatives of the Tripura Chotkol Shramik Union (Tripura Jute Mill Workers Union) and the Jute Mill Pensioners Society raised serious grievances regarding the non-fulfillment of statutory pension obligations by mill management and Provident Fund authorities.
The trade union leadership announced plans for a series of statewide democratic agitations, including mass dharnas and deputations, to press for their long-pending financial rights.
Core Demands Raised at the Press Conference
- Compliance with EPFO & Judicial Directives: The unions demanded that both the Tripura Jute Mill Limited (TJML) management and Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) authorities fulfill their statutory duties by implementing higher pension payouts in accordance with court judgments.
- Restructuring & Pension Revision: Demonstrators urged immediate steps to restructure and revise old pension amounts (Pension Revision) on par with revised pay-and-allowance arrears and updated wage structures.
- Release of Pending Arrears: The leadership criticized the prolonged delay in releasing legitimate financial arrears owed to retired mill workers and pensioners.
Escalation of Movement
Announcing the future course of action, union representatives confirmed that if immediate administrative steps are not taken to address these grievances, workers and retired pensioners will launch mass sit-in demonstrations (Gan-Dharna) and submit collective deputations (Gan-Deputation) to relevant departmental heads.
