AGARTALA: In a prestigious ceremony celebrating academic and cultural excellence, eminent Kokborok scholar and recent Padma Shri recipient Naresh Chandra Debbarma was formally felicitated by the Kalyan Ashram. The grand reception program was organized at the auditorium of Sukanta Academy in Agartala.
The event was organized to honor the veteran linguist for his monumental contribution to indigenous literature and education, which recently earned him the nation’s fourth-highest civilian award.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including former MLA Atul Debbarma, who praised the legendary author’s lifelong struggle to uplift the Tripuri language. Dignitaries on stage highlighted how Naresh Chandra Debbarma authored over 30 books, pioneering structural research and preservation of the Kokborok language when resources were scarce.
Addressing the gathering at Sukanta Academy, Padma Shri Naresh Chandra Debbarma expressed his gratitude to Kalyan Ashram and urged the younger generation to take up the mantle of protecting and enriching their native mother tongue. A large gathering of cultural activists, indigenous community leaders, and members of civil society attended the event to witness the historic celebration.
