AGARTALA: In a remarkable push toward transforming urban dead-spaces into scenic community landmarks, the long-neglected pond adjacent to the Abhoynagar Market in Agartala is on the verge of a complete aesthetic revival. AMC Mayor and local MLA Dipak Majumder visited the site today to personally inspect the final phases of the comprehensive beautification project.
The historic water body, which had remained abandoned, polluted, and choked with garbage for nearly five decades, was taken up for a total structural overhaul by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). With an estimated expenditure exceeding ₹3 crore, the restoration work is now almost 100% complete.
During his high-profile site visit, Mayor Dipak Majumder thoroughly reviewed the quality of the newly constructed sitting areas, concrete pathways, protective railings, and modern decorative illumination setups. Speaking to media personnel at the site, the Mayor expressed great satisfaction with the rapid progress and announced that the state government is giving the final touches to the park. The beautifully transformed public arena will be formally inaugurated later this month by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha.
”Preserving our water reservoirs is vital for environmental sustainability and civic health. This abandoned site has now been successfully reshaped into a beautiful recreational hub for families and health enthusiasts of Ward No. 11,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated.
Accompanied by Ward Councillor Hiralal Debnath and top AMC administrative engineers, the Mayor directed the contracted teams to clean up the peripheral areas quickly to ensure a flawless grand opening. Local residents of the Abhoynagar area have overwhelmingly praised the initiative, noting that the project will completely elevate the standard of living and provide a scenic leisure spot for city dwellers.
