AGARTALA | June 27, 2026: To push back against systemic gaps in backward-class welfare, the SC (Scheduled Castes) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) Departments of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) have announced a massive, joint agitation program followed by a high-stakes press conference in the capital on June 29.
The coordinated political move aims to bring public focus to a series of long-pending structural, educational, and economic demands affecting marginalized communities across the state.
Planned Agitation to Highlight Backlog Vacancies and Sub-Quotas
The decision to hit the streets comes after a series of internal review meetings held at Congress Bhavan, where department chiefs noted a sharp decline in the execution of welfare benefits for SC and OBC segments. Organizers confirmed that the June 29 demonstration will feature frontline state leaders, district observers, and youth activists marching in solidarity.
The primary friction points raised by the joint wings focus heavily on employment backlogs, delayed scholarship disbursements, and the demand for data transparency in localized reservation pools.
”Our SC and OBC populations have been systematically pushed to the fringes when it comes to actual state-level execution. On June 29, we are launching a highly visible, democratic agitation program to make the administration hear our voice. We are not just holding a symbolic protest; we are presenting a detailed chargesheet of unfulfilled promises during our press meet on the same day. From clearing massive employment backlogs to restructuring post-matric stipends—the government must deliver immediate answers,” a senior Pradesh Congress SC Department executive stated.
Core Charter of Demands Mobilized for June 29
The joint coordination committee has finalized a targeted demand charter to be formally presented during the upcoming press meet:
- Clearing Departmental Backlogs: Demanding an immediate, transparent special recruitment drive to fill all vacant SC and OBC backlog posts across various state government departments.
- Timely Stipends & Educational Aid: Fast-tracking the release of pending post-matric scholarships and providing specialized infrastructural funding for backward-class student hostels.
- Economic Welfare Credit Lines: Streamlining credit access and low-interest loan setups through state cooperative banks to revive small-scale businesses run by SC and OBC artisans.
- Reservation Oversight: Establishing a highly independent state commission to monitor and ensure strict adherence to reservation policies in all public sector promotions and direct recruitments.
The TPCC leadership has issued directives to all sub-divisional units to mobilize workers at the grassroots level to ensure the success of the June 29 program, promising to expand the agitation into a block-level movement if the administration ignores their charter.
