AGARTALA | June 25, 2026: To pressure the administration over growing distress in the state’s agricultural sector, a high-level delegation of the Tripura Pradesh Kisan Congress today submitted a comprehensive 6-point deputation to the District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura. The standard agrarian charter outlines urgent structural interventions required to shield marginalized farmers from soaring input costs and erratic weather patterns.
The protest program saw a significant gathering of agricultural laborers and regional committee leaders who marched to the DM office, raising slogans demanding immediate state intervention.
Demanding Financial Insulations and Regularized Subsidies
The Kisan Congress leadership asserted that despite big claims regarding rural development, the economic condition of the state’s farming community has severely deteriorated. The delegation highlighted that delayed subsidy rollouts and unregulated market pricing have pushed local growers into deep debt cycles.
The 6-point demand charter submitted to the West Tripura DM focuses heavily on creating long-term financial security parameters for the rural workforce.
”Our farmers are the backbone of Tripura’s economy, yet they are facing absolute neglect under the current administrative setup. We have presented a clear, 6-point demand layout to the West Tripura District Magistrate today. From ensuring a fair Minimum Support Price (MSP) to providing subsidized electricity for irrigation and immediate crop insurance clearances—the government must act swiftly. If these basic rights are not secured within a designated timeframe, the Kisan Congress will launch a state-wide democratic agitation,” a senior Kisan Congress leader stated after meeting the DM.
Key Demands Highlighted in the 6-Point Charter
The organizational delegation detailed the core components of their memorandum, emphasizing immediate relief measures ahead of the peak farming cycle:
- Guaranteed Fair Pricing (MSP): Establishing transparent procurement centers across all blocks to ensure farmers receive a fair Minimum Support Price for paddy and cash crops, eliminating middleman exploitation.
- Irrigation Support and Power Subsidies: Providing uninterrupted power supply to agricultural feeders and offering major subsidies on electricity consumed by small-scale irrigation pumps.
- Comprehensive Crop Insurance: Fast-tracking the assessment and disbursal of compensation files under crop insurance schemes for farmers who suffered losses during recent heavy weather anomalies.
- Modern Equipment and Cold Storage: Setting up decentralized cold storage facilities at the sub-divisional level and ensuring the transparent distribution of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and modern sprayers.
The West Tripura District Magistrate reportedly received the memorandum and assured the delegation that the highlighted points would be reviewed thoroughly and forwarded to the higher authorities in the Agriculture Department for necessary action.
