Tripura is gearing up to launch the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, with Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath announcing the event on May 28. The campaign is set to kick off on May 29 and will take place across 864 locations in the state.
During a press conference, Minister Nath revealed that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan may visit Tripura in connection with the event. The Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is being organized with the upcoming Kharif season in mind, aiming to achieve self-reliance in agriculture.
“In Tripura, the Abhiyan will be held at 864 locations. In every district, three committees have been formed, and each day, meetings will be held with 200 farmers. The first session will be from 9 to 11 AM, the second from 12 to 2 PM, and the third from 3 to 5 PM,” Minister Nath explained.
The committees will consist of representatives from various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Resources Development Department, Fisheries, agricultural scientists, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR, Agricultural and Veterinary Colleges, and progressive farmers. A total of 72 meetings will be held across the state.
Additionally, 24 Krishi Raths will be mobilized, each team equipped with a Rath displaying information about state and central schemes related to agriculture, horticulture, ARDD, and fisheries. The Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, will inaugurate the event at Bishramganj under Sepahijala district on the first day.
Minister Nath stressed the importance of the campaign in ensuring food security and mentioned that the Union Agriculture Minister’s presence is expected, although the visit date has not been finalized. The main goal of the Abhiyan is to show farmers that the government is there to support them with technology, training, and assistance.
Around 1.72 lakh farmers have already been reached out to regarding this initiative, and approximately 200 scientists will engage with them during the campaign, alongside progressive farmers. The Abhiyan aims to boost agricultural productivity and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in Tripura.
