AGARTALA: In a major revelation underlining the state’s stringent highway monitoring and strict legal enforcement, Tripura’s Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced today that the government exchequer has successfully accumulated a massive revenue of ₹35 crore solely through traffic challans and vehicle penalty fines.
The significant financial milestone was shared by the Minister during his inaugural address at the high-profile two-day sensitization workshop on the “Motor Vehicles Act and Associated Rules,” currently being held at the Pragna Bhavan auditorium in Agartala for state police personnel.
Addressing the gathered law enforcement officers, traffic inspectors, and transport administrators, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury clarified that generating revenue is not the state’s primary motive. Instead, the ultimate goal of the government is to heavily educate the general populace and increase deep grassroot awareness regarding road safety protocols to completely minimize tragic highway accidents across the state.
”While traffic enforcement and automated digital challans have brought ₹35 crore into the government treasury, our true success lies in saving innocent human lives. The government wants to make our citizens deeply aware of traffic regulations, helmet compliance, and speed thresholds. Strict enforcement coupled with extensive public awareness is our roadmap to make Tripura’s highways completely accident-free,” Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized.
The Minister added that the two-day specialized workshop serves as a critical strategic platform to improve technical coordination between the Tripura Police, Traffic department, and regional transport offices, helping to build a smoother, more law-abiding transit framework on the ground.
