Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Department has taken a significant step towards boosting digital learning for students in remote areas by introducing smart classes in 33 tribal hostels across the state. The initiative, launched as part of the two-week-long Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, aims to provide around 7,000 students with access to digital education in its first phase.
Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma inaugurated a smart class at a tribal hostel to kick off the program, with active participation from students in all 33 government-run hostels. The newly developed digital infrastructure will enable students to benefit from live online interactive classes, recorded lectures, printed study materials in multiple languages, online timed tests, downloadable study materials, a learning management system (LMS), and motivational and mental health counselling sessions in each hostel.
“We have set a target to introduce smart classes in 100 government-run tribal hostels to provide the best possible technological access to students who are studying and residing in remote areas. In the first phase, the facility has been implemented in 33 hostels,” said Tribal Welfare Director Subhasish Das.
During the launch, Minister Debbarma personally interacted with students from hostels such as SD Memorial ST Girls’ Hostel, BKI ST Boys’ Hostel (Belonia), Melaghar ST Girls’ Hostel, and KBI ST Boys’ Hostel (Udaipur), encouraging them to make use of the technological advantage provided by the smart classes.
This initiative is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that students in remote tribal areas have access to quality education through the use of technology.
