Agartala: In a significant move to bridge the city’s royal heritage with modern administrative efficiency, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, is set to grace a momentous program tomorrow, February 1, 2026. The event, scheduled for 4:00 PM at the Maharani Tulsibati HS School premises, will feature two major milestones for the capital city: the laying of the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the historic Jackson Gate and the inauguration of the newly constructed Ward Office for Ward No. 20 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Restoring a Royal Landmark: The Jackson Gate
The highlight of the afternoon will be the formal commencement of the Jackson Gate rebuilding project. Originally constructed in 1929 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya to honor the visit of the then Governor of Bengal, Sir Francis Stanley Jackson, the gate was a symbol of Agartala’s architectural grandeur before its demolition in 1981.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who has been a vocal advocate for preserving Tripura’s royal legacy, previously inspected the site and promised to restore the structure to its original glory. The project aims to reconnect the younger generation with Agartala’s history while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city’s central zone.
Enhancing Urban Governance: New Ward 20 Office
Simultaneously, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed Ward Office for Ward No. 20. This modern facility is designed to decentralize administrative services, making it easier for local residents to access AMC-related benefits, certificates, and civic grievance redressal. The inauguration underscores the state government’s commitment to “Ease of Living” and robust urban governance.
Event Details & Expected Guests
The program at Maharani Tulsibati HS School is expected to see a large gathering of local residents and party workers. Accompanying the Chief Minister will be:
- Dipak Majumder, Hon’ble Mayor of AMC and MLA.
- Senior officials from the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
- Prominent leaders from the 8 Bardowali and 7 Ramnagar Mandals.
Security and logistical arrangements at the venue are being finalized to ensure a seamless event. The double-header program is seen as a major step toward a “Viksit Agartala,” balancing the preservation of the past with the infrastructure of the future.
