AGARTALA: In a profound display of spiritual solidarity, the Governor of Tripura, Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, joined hundreds of devotees at the Venuvan Buddha Vihar in Kunjaban this afternoon to celebrate the 2570th Buddha Purnima. Arriving at the monastery at 4:30 PM, the Governor participated in the sacred rituals marking the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha.
The visit underscored the state’s commitment to the values of peace and non-violence, which the Governor highlighted as the “ultimate guiding light” for modern society.
A Ritualistic Welcome
Upon his arrival, the Governor was traditionally welcomed by the head monks and the management committee of the Vihar. The atmosphere was charged with the fragrance of incense and the rhythmic chanting of Pali verses.
Highlights of the Governor’s Participation:
- Lighting the Ceremonial Lamp: The Governor formally inaugurated the evening session by lighting the traditional lamp before the golden idol of Lord Buddha.
- Offering of Flowers: In a gesture of deep respect, Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu offered fresh blossoms and “Sanghadana” (offerings to the monks).

“The Path of Simplicity”: Governor’s Address
Addressing the gathering from the Vihar’s courtyard, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu emphasized that the teachings of Gautam Buddha are not just religious doctrines but practical tools for a better life.
”It is a privilege to be at Venuvan Buddha Vihar on this triple-blessed day. Lord Buddha’s message of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Karuna (compassion) is the medicine the world needs today. We must strive to simplify our lives, remain honest in our dealings, and embrace the path of peace to ensure the balanced development of our beautiful state,” the Governor stated.
Promoting Cultural Tourism
During his interaction with the monastery officials, the Governor also touched upon the potential of Tripura’s Buddhist heritage. Following his recent visit to the archaeological Buddhist site in Boxanagar, he reiterated that sites like Venuvan Vihar are spiritual anchors that could further boost the state’s cultural tourism and international connectivity with Southeast Asia.
Evening Glow at Venuvan
As the Governor’s visit concluded, the monastery prepared for the evening’s final ritual—the lighting of thousands of lamps. The presence of the Constitutional head at the 2570th-anniversary celebrations added a layer of institutional prestige to the festivities, leaving the local Buddhist community encouraged by the state’s support for their cultural and spiritual legacy.
By sunset, Venuvan Vihar stood as a beacon of light in Agartala, symbolizing the eternal wisdom of the “Light of Asia” that continues to shine through 25 centuries.
