Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, is all set to undergo a major transformation with a new initiative aimed at increasing its green cover. The Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) has launched a city-wide tree-planting campaign to enhance the beauty of the city and create more recreational spaces for its residents.
Sailesh Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of ASCL, announced that efforts are already underway to plant trees along major roads and across different parts of the city. The initiative is part of the larger Haora River development project, which aims to revitalize a 2 km stretch along the riverbanks. Planter boxes have been installed, and plantation activities have begun in collaboration with the Rotary Club Agartala.
The Rs 101 crore project includes the development of a riverfront with a yoga park, cycling track, walking space, and other recreational facilities. One side of the riverfront has already been completed, with the other side expected to be finished by November this year.
Yadav also highlighted the need to improve the green cover on urban streets, noting that some main roads in Agartala lack greenery. As part of the initiative, trees will be planted at regular intervals on roads like Hari Ganga Basak Road to provide shade and enhance the aesthetics of the city.
By combining infrastructure development with sustainable green initiatives, ASCL aims to create a more environmentally-friendly and visually appealing urban landscape in Agartala. The project is expected to benefit both residents and visitors, making the city a more attractive and livable place for all.
