AGARTALA | July 6, 2026: Blending national commemoration with active humanitarian service, the Northeast Foundation today organized a voluntary blood donation camp to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Kesari Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The specialized medical drive was hosted at the official Agartala residence of senior BJP leader and former Union Minister of State, Smt. Pratima Bhowmik.
The event witnessed a strong turnout of youth volunteers, socio-cultural activists, and medical personnel who arrived to donate blood and pay tribute to the foundational ideals of the country’s unity.
A Noble Tribute Rooted in Selfless Community Service
The residential compound was transformed into a temporary blood collection unit, managed by a dedicated healthcare team from the state referral hospital’s blood bank. Former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik formally inaugurated the camp by offering floral tributes at the portrait of Dr. Mookerjee.
While addressing reporters at the venue, Smt. Pratima Bhowmik highly praised the executive members of the Northeast Foundation—a philanthropic society established during the peak of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic—for their consistent dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and mitigating localized health crises.
”Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s lifelong mission was to build a strong, completely unified, and self-reliant India. Today, as we celebrate his landmark 125th birth anniversary, there is no greater tribute to his legacy than saving human lives through voluntary blood donation. Our state’s medical repositories regularly require voluntary contributions to aid patients in critical care. By stepping forward today, our youth are putting the ‘Nation-First’ ideology into physical action. This noble initiative reflects our collective determination to realize the vision of ‘Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura’ and ‘Ek Bharat Srestha Bharat.’ I urge the Northeast Foundation to continue driving these grassroots campaigns,” former Union MoS Smt. Pratima Bhowmik stated during the event.
Overwhelming Participation from Youth and Supporters
To ensure maximum clinical impact, the Northeast Foundation set a target of collecting 50 units of high-screened blood during the single-day camp. Dozens of active party workers, neighborhood youth, and institutional volunteers lined up to contribute, answering the joint call-to-action issued by the foundation and the senior leadership.
The organizers concluded the event by presenting formal appreciation certificates and medical refreshment kits to all voluntary donors, reaffirming that the foundation will continue to establish similar community medical camps across rural subdivisions over the monsoon season to prevent blood inventory shortages.
