The Odisha Vigilance department has expanded its investigation into suspended IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, who was arrested on June 9th for allegedly accepting a bribe. Following Chakma’s arrest, vigilance teams raided his residence in Tripura and the homes of his relatives in Himachal Pradesh.
During the raid at Chakma’s official residence in Dharmagarh, Kalahandi district, a significant amount of Rs 47 lakh was seized. The department is now delving into Chakma’s financial records, including bank deposits and investments, to uncover any potential evidence of corruption.
This case has shed light on the issue of corruption within the administrative structure, prompting law enforcement to take strict action against such crimes. Chakma, a 2021 batch Odisha cadre IAS officer who served as the sub-collector in Kalahandi district, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
A case has been registered against Chakma under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, as the investigation continues. Three teams from the Odisha Vigilance department have been dispatched to Tripura and Himachal Pradesh to conduct further searches at locations linked to Chakma.
The vigilance department is committed to upholding integrity within public services and rooting out corruption at all levels. The ongoing investigation into Chakma’s alleged misconduct serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability within the administrative system.
