Rail services to Tripura have been severely disrupted following a landslide near New Haflong in Assam, causing a major safety concern for train movement along the Lumding–Badarpur hill section. The incident, which occurred as a result of ongoing road repair works by the NHAI, led to a large amount of land and boulders collapsing onto the railway track.
The Northeast Frontier Railway has taken immediate action to suspend train services between Lumding and Badarpur due to the unstable slope and water flow from the adjacent road, which posed a significant risk to passenger safety. The Railways authorities have requested NHAI to deploy machinery and manpower to implement urgent protective measures to prevent further incidents.
In response to the disruption, three key Tripura-bound trains have been short terminated. The 12501 Kolkata–Agartala Garib Rath Express and 12519 Lokmanya Tilak–Agartala Express, scheduled for 22 June, were both halted at Guwahati. Additionally, the 20501 Agartala–Anand Vihar Tejas Express of 23 June was terminated at Badarpur.
As a result of the landslide, several other train services have been either cancelled or rescheduled. For example, the Silchar–New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti train is now departing at 6:00 AM on 24 June. Restoration work is currently underway, but services will only resume once safety clearance has been obtained. Passengers are advised to stay updated with official announcements regarding the status of their journeys.
