AGARTALA: Emphasizing that there is no synthetic substitute for human blood, Hon’ble Governor Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu today called upon the citizens of Tripura to embrace voluntary blood donation as a “lifeline of humanity.” The Governor was speaking at the inaugural session of the World Red Cross Day celebrations and a Mega Blood Donation Camp organized at the Red Cross Bhavan, situated opposite the IGM Hospital.
The event, which began at 11:30 AM, saw a robust participation from both civil society and uniformed personnel, marking the 163rd birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross.
A Call for “Blood-Free” Shortage by 2027
In his keynote address, Governor Nallu lauded the voluntary spirit of the people of Tripura. He set a transformative goal for the state’s health sector, urging all stakeholders to work toward a common pledge.
”Every 250 milliliters of blood can save up to three lives. I call upon the people of our state to pledge that by 2027, every blood bank in Tripura should be free from shortages. A healthy donor is a superhero, and today, we see many such heroes in Agartala who are reflecting the spirit of ‘United in Humanity,'” Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu stated while addressing the gathering.
Busting Myths and Promoting Safety
The Governor also addressed common misconceptions regarding blood donation, reassuring the public that the process is entirely safe and medically beneficial. He noted that regular donation helps in reducing iron overload and stimulates the production of fresh blood cells.

- Recognition: The Governor distributed certificates of appreciation to patrons, life members of the Indian Red Cross Society, and Swasthya Sakhis (health volunteers) for their dedicated community service.
- Statewide Representation: Representatives and volunteers from all eight districts of Tripura participated in the mega camp.
The Role of the Red Cross Society
BK Ray, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society (Tripura State Branch), and other senior officials were present to oversee the camp. The leadership highlighted that the Red Cross is not just active during emergencies but remains a constant pillar for disaster management and healthcare initiatives in the state’s remote corners.
The Mega Blood Donation Camp successfully collected a significant number of units, which will be distributed to state-run hospitals to assist patients requiring urgent transfusions and surgeries. As the program concluded, the Governor personally interacted with the donors, thanking them for their selfless contribution to the state’s health security.
