Train services to parts of Northeast India have been restored after a landslide caused disruptions in Dima Hasao district. The rail link to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam’s Barak Valley was reopened on July 4th following overnight efforts to clear the debris.
According to a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) release, services on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section were successfully restored in the morning. The first train to pass through the restored section was the Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express.
The disruption occurred between Dihakho and Mupa stations on Thursday evening when large boulders fell on the tracks due to a landslide. However, continuous efforts throughout the night ensured that the debris was cleared and the tracks were safely restored.
During the operation, necessary food items and water were provided to the stranded passengers. The NFR statement also mentioned that trains that were rescheduled or regulated at various locations have now resumed their scheduled onward journey.
The restoration of train services has brought relief to passengers traveling to and from the Northeast, especially as the region heavily relies on rail connectivity for transportation. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by natural disasters in hilly terrains, and the importance of prompt and efficient response to such disruptions.
