Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is encouraging people to explore the beautiful tourist spots in the state, emphasizing that insurgency is no longer a threat.
During his visit to Chabimura in Gomati district, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for tourism facilities worth Rs 67 crore. He highlighted the diverse range of tourism opportunities in Tripura, from spiritual and ecotourism to historical structures.
Saha noted the significant increase in tourist footfall in recent years, attributing it to the prevailing peace in the state. He pointed out that Tripura, once plagued by insurgency and violence, has now become a safe destination for tourists following the surrender of rebel groups like the NLFT and ATTF.
The Chief Minister stated that tourist arrivals have risen to 7 lakh during the 2024-25 fiscal year, compared to 5 lakh the previous year. He also mentioned plans to introduce tourist police to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
Highlighting the potential of tourism to uplift the socio-economic status of rural communities, Saha assured that the government is taking all necessary steps to attract more tourists to the state.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury outlined the various initiatives being undertaken to promote tourism in Tripura. He mentioned the development of tourism infrastructures at Fatik Sagar and Amar Sagar, funded by the Asian Development Bank, which will include modern facilities such as a cafeteria, boating, and cottages.
Chowdhury also announced that the Centre has sanctioned funds for the construction of 51 Shakti Peeth at Bandower and an eco-tourism spot at Sachindranagar, which are expected to transform the tourism landscape of Tripura.
Overall, the government is optimistic about the future of tourism in Tripura and is committed to making the state a top destination for travelers looking to explore its rich cultural and natural heritage.
