Tripura Civil Society has declared a 24-hour bandh on October 23, demanding action against illegal infiltration, implementation of the Inner Line Permit, and enforcement of the Tiprasa Accord. Picketing is scheduled to take place at approximately 25 locations throughout the state, with three key points identified in Agartala.
Ranjit Debbarma, leader of Tripura Civil Society and MLA of the Tipra Motha Party, stated that in Agartala, picketing will occur at the Circuit House, in front of the Tripura Assembly, and at the North Gate. However, a final decision on locations will be made by evening. Picketing will also be held in districts such as Kanchanpur, Panisagar, and Hatai Kotor, with the possibility of more sites being added.
Debbarma emphasized that Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party, has been in discussions with both the Tripura and Central governments regarding their demands. He expressed frustration over the lack of implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and the delay in clearing bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Regarding the issue of illegal immigration, Debbarma highlighted recent incidents of Bangladeshis being detained and stressed the need for the government to take action against those living in the state illegally. He warned that if the demands of Tripura Civil Society are not addressed, a larger protest could erupt across the state.
The Tripura Civil Society leader called on the government to fulfill their promises and obligations to the people of Tripura, particularly in regards to the Tiprasa Accord and the issue of illegal immigration. The bandh on October 23 is seen as a way to draw attention to these pressing issues and to push for concrete action from the authorities.
