Educated youths in Tripura are increasingly turning to farming as a lucrative career option, according to Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Speaking at the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan event in Phultali village, Nath highlighted the trend of highly educated youths making significant incomes through agriculture, supported by the state government and modern farming practices.
The event, held in the Sepahijala district, focused on the government’s commitment to empowering farmers in various sectors such as fisheries, poultry, floriculture, and horticulture. Nath emphasized the shift from viewing agriculture as a traditional occupation to a modern, income-generating profession.
The minister stressed the importance of scientific farming practices, including free soil testing provided by the government to improve crop yields. He also directed department officials to ensure the timely delivery of seeds and address any logistical challenges faced by farmers during the cultivation season.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan campaign, which entered its eighth day, brought together agricultural scientists, government officials, and local farmers to discuss ways to support the agricultural sector in Tripura. Minister Nath symbolically pledged a power tiller to a local farmer, demonstrating the government’s direct assistance to cultivators.
In a poignant comparison, Nath likened farmers to soldiers, highlighting their vital roles in feeding and defending the nation. He urged farmers not to leave their land unused and assured them of the government’s full support.
The state’s focus on agriculture through initiatives like the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is not only revitalizing rural livelihoods but also transforming farming into an aspirational and dignified profession for educated youth in Tripura.
