The eighth session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly is set to kick off on September 19 and run until September 23, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has called for the session to take place, with Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul presiding over the proceedings in place of the unwell Speaker Biswabandhu Sen.
During the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, attended by representatives from the BJP, CPI(M), and Tipra Motha Party, it was decided that the Assembly will focus on discussions aimed at benefiting the people of Tripura. Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury was unable to attend the meeting due to personal reasons.
The session has been shortened to two days due to the upcoming Durga Puja festival and the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22. As a result, there will be no House sitting on that day, with business resuming on September 23.
Key bills to be tabled during the session include the Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, the Tripura Jana Viswas (Amendment) Provision Bill, the Factories Bill, and the Tripura Shops and Establishments (Seventh Amendment) Bill. The first day of the session will feature the Question Hour and introduction of bills, with detailed discussions scheduled for September 23.
Furthermore, three private members’ resolutions will be considered during the session. BJP MLAs Dipak Majumder and Ram Pada Jamatia, along with a CPI(M) legislator, have been given the opportunity to move their resolutions through balloting. The Assembly aims to address important issues and make decisions that will benefit the people of Tripura.
