Held at the Umakanta English Medium School Ground in West District, the exercise simulated air raid and air crash scenarios to test the coordination among various disaster response agencies and volunteers

The drill was part of a nationwide initiative to enhance disaster preparedness, involving 244 locations across India. In Tripura, all eight districts participated, with civil defense volunteers playing a crucial role in the simulations. West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar highlighted the significance of the exercise, noting its alignment with a national program initiated after a high-level meeting with District Magistrates and Chief Secretaries across the country.

The mock drill commenced with an earthquake scenario, demonstrating the public’s response during tremors and showcasing the coordination among agencies for rescue and relief operations. This was followed by a simulated air crash response, illustrating evacuation procedures and the role of first responders in ensuring civilian safety.

Participating agencies included the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), civil defense volunteers, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Apda Mitra volunteers, and several other line agencies. Their collective efforts underscored the importance of public awareness and readiness in the face of natural or man-made disasters.

To facilitate the drill, electricity supply was temporarily suspended in Agartala city from 5:30 PM to 5:40 PM, ensuring an uninterrupted simulation of emergency scenarios.
This mock drill serves as a testament to Tripura’s commitment to disaster preparedness and the active involvement of its citizens and agencies in safeguarding the community.
According to Dr. Vishal Kumar, West Tripura DM, this drill was part of a national program.
It followed a top-level meeting involving District Magistrates and Chief Secretaries across India.
