Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma, a prominent figure in the Tripura royal family, recently made headlines with his announcement to take legal action regarding land and customary bills that have allegedly been denied to the indigenous people of Tripura by various governments over the years.
Scheduled to file a case in the Supreme Court on October 17, DebBarma has been vocal about the need for the indigenous communities of Tripura to have their rights protected and not determined by political authorities or District Magistrates. He has called for the Governor, as the custodian of the Sixth Schedule, to act in the best interest of the indigenous people.
In a show of appreciation, DebBarma thanked the officers and lawyers who have supported him in compiling the legal case, acknowledging the risks they have taken in assisting him with this initiative.
This legal action is a significant step in addressing the ongoing tensions surrounding land rights and customary laws that impact Tripura’s indigenous population. By taking this matter to the highest judicial forum in the country, DebBarma is seeking justice and recognition for the indigenous communities of Tripura.
