News Report:
Following the large public rally organised by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma at the Astabal Ground under the banner of ‘One NorthEast’, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held an important press conference at its state headquarters on Wednesday.
Former MP Rebati Tripura led the briefing, sharply criticising Pradyot and the TIPRA Motha leadership, claiming that the call for ‘One NorthEast’ stems from a “fear of political irrelevance”.
Rebati Tripura alleged that despite TIPRA Motha’s earlier demand for ‘Tipraland’ and later ‘Greater Tipraland’, the party has been shifting its positions repeatedly. He argued that their changing narratives show “confusion and contradictions”, suggesting that attempts to form new regional alliances across several northeastern states are creating unnecessary division and provocation.
Rebati further said that Pradyot often avoids acknowledging his own political roots, stating, “A Congress MP’s and Minister’s son feels ashamed of his identity but takes his grandfather’s name.”
He added that under BJP governance, Pradyot has found “the courage to speak loudly”, and questioned which minister Pradyot referenced in his recent speech.
Touching on administrative issues, Rebati Tripura strongly criticised the ADC, claiming that the administration suffers from “financial indiscipline” and that “constitutional norms are not being followed”. He demanded transparency, audits, and accountability from the council.
During the press conference, MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma commented on the murder of Anand Roaja, alleging that “conspiracies similar to those before 2028 are resurfacing”. He revisited past incidents and questioned why TIPRA did not field a candidate against Jiten Choudhury in Sabroom.
Chakma also pointed out that the tribal Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram did not endorse the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, raising questions about TIPRA’s regional political strategy.
Rebati Tripura concluded that the possibility of political alliances ahead of the 2026 ADC elections “will be revealed by time”, adding that the unity and development achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha have significantly improved Tripura’s stability, identity, and infrastructure.
Senior BJP leaders including MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma, State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, and Media In-Charge Sunit Sarkar were present at the press meet.
