AGARTALA: In a successful late-night crackdown on petty crime, a joint team from the Ramnagar Outpost and West Agartala Police Station apprehended two suspected thieves from the Bhitarban area last night. The operation resulted in the recovery of stolen jewelry, marking another win for the capital city’s intensified night patrolling initiative.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Zakir Hossain and Sagar Das.
The Operation and Recovery
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of suspicious individuals in the Bhitarban locality, the police team intercepted the duo during the early hours of Sunday. Upon conducting a search, officers recovered a stolen gold chain weighing approximately 9 grams.

Speaking to reporters this morning, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of West Agartala Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, confirmed the arrests and stated that the police are currently investigating if the duo is linked to other recent snatching incidents reported in the Ramnagar and Akhaura Road areas.
”Our teams were on high alert following reports of petty thefts in the vicinity. Zakir and Sagar were caught with the stolen gold chain last night. We are producing them before the court today with a prayer for police remand to interrogate them further about their associates and any other stolen property they might have disposed of,” OC Rana Chatterjee stated.
Enhanced Security Measures
The arrest comes at a time when the West Tripura police have ramped up surveillance in residential pockets to curb nighttime burglaries. Residents of Bhitarban and Ramnagar have welcomed the swift action, noting that visible police presence is essential to deter local gangs.
The duo will be produced at the Agartala Court later this afternoon. Police officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest outpost or via the ‘Tripura Police’ helpline.
