Assam Rifles Honors Fallen Hero and Recognizes Outstanding Service
Assam Rifles recently paid tribute to Rifleman Kalyan Kumar, who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation May Flower on May 3, 2002 at Longtum-Il village, Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Radhanagar, Tripura in honor of his exceptional courage and devotion to duty in one of the most challenging counter-insurgency operations in the region.
The battalion expressed their admiration for Rifleman Kalyan Kumar’s gallant actions, which serve as a shining example of valor and sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army. Wreaths were laid and a moment of silence was observed to commemorate his memory.
In a separate event, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy awarded 28 Assam Rifles with the prestigious Unit Citation in recognition of their outstanding service and exemplary contributions. The unit has been instrumental in anti-narcotics operations across the state, conducting over 60 successful operations resulting in the seizure of contraband worth more than Rs 300 crore.
These efforts have significantly impacted illegal drug networks, aligning with the government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan initiative to create a drug-free society. In addition to their operational excellence, 28 Assam Rifles has also been actively involved in humanitarian efforts.
During the monsoon floods in August 2024, the battalion participated in relief and rescue operations under Operation Jal Rahat, providing immediate support and assistance to affected communities. Their dedication to both security and humanitarian causes has solidified their reputation as a commendable force within the region.
