The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura is facing internal turmoil as rifts within the party widen, and tensions with its ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), continue to simmer. In an effort to address these challenges, the BJP’s North East Coordinator and MP, Dr. Sambit Patra, arrived in Agartala on Tuesday for a series of high-level consultations.
The Tripura BJP is currently grappling with organizational uncertainty, as the tenure of the incumbent state president, Rajib Bhattacharjee, expired several months ago without a successor being announced. This has left the state leadership in limbo, prompting Dr. Patra’s visit to stabilize the party’s position.
During his visit, Dr. Patra held closed-door meetings with key leaders, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, ministers, MLAs, and senior party functionaries. The discussions focused on resolving factional disputes, strengthening organizational unity, and improving coordination with Tipra Motha ahead of the TTAADC and Village Committee elections.
The BJP’s Tripura in-charge, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, also arrived in Agartala to assist in the internal consultations and address the party’s widening differences. These efforts come in the wake of a late-night meeting between Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, where they discussed the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, the Village Committee elections schedule, and tribal issues such as land rights.
Speculation is mounting within political circles that a cabinet reshuffle or expansion may be on the horizon, as Chief Minister Saha has reportedly been meeting with some ministers individually in recent days. With the BJP’s internal framework under review and alliance dynamics in flux, Tripura’s political climate remains tense as the ruling party strives to restore cohesion and stability ahead of a crucial electoral season.
