AGARTALA | July 1, 2026: Seeking immediate state intervention to save a young life, a four-member delegation from the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) today submitted a formal deputation to the Director of Health Services. The youth wing urged the state administration to completely sponsor the advanced medical treatment of Monushree Chowdhury, a patient battling a critical ailment.
The delegation asserted that public donation drives alone will not suffice to cover the astronomical medical expenses required for her recovery.
Crowd-Funding Insufficient for Advanced Critical Care
Speaking to media persons outside the health directorate headquarters, the DYFI representatives highlighted that while local clubs, youth units, and well-wishers have been trying to gather financial assistance through crowd-funding, the total estimated cost of the treatment far exceeds what can be raised through public charity.
The youth leadership argued that without institutional backing and structural funding from the state’s emergency medical fund, the patient cannot access specialized supra-specialty care.
”We have placed a formal deputation before the Health Director today regarding the critical medical condition of Monushree Chowdhury. The amount of money needed for her specialized procedures is massive. No matter how much money common citizens and youth groups raise through street-level collections, it will simply not be enough to secure her treatment. It is the fundamental duty of the state government to step in during such life-threatening crises. We demand that the health department directly take up the responsibility, sanction the necessary funds, and coordinate with out-of-state referral hospitals to ensure Monushree receives immediate, high-quality care,” a senior DYFI delegation member stated during the press interaction.
Core Structural Demands Framed by the Youth Wing
The four-member youth council urged the health directorate to immediately activate emergency healthcare protocols, specifically requesting:
- State-Sponsored Referrals: Officially transferring Monushree Chowdhury’s case to a premier out-of-state super-specialty hospital under government expenses.
- Emergency Fund Mobilization: Fast-tracking the bureaucratic approval pipeline to release financial grants from the Chief Minister’s Special Relief Fund or state healthcare welfare pools.
- Setting up Institutional Mechanisms: Designing a streamlined, hassle-free framework at the health directorate to process financial aid requests for patients from economically weaker sections without procedural delays.
The Health Director accepted the memorandum and assured the youth representatives that the department would evaluate the medical boards’ files of the patient to explore all possible governmental assistance and fast-track the official response.
