AGARTALA: Following the unprecedented nationwide cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination due to a massive paper leak, the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress held a high-stakes press conference at the Congress Bhavan today. State Youth Congress President Nil Kamal Saha launched a scathing attack on the Union Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), describing the incident as a “death blow” to the dreams of millions of hardworking medical aspirants.
The press meet comes a day after the NTA officially scrapped the May 3 exam following a CBI probe that uncovered a widespread “guess paper” racket circulated via social media.
“A Crime Against the Youth”: Key Allegations
Addressing the media, Nil Kamal Saha alleged that the frequent leaks under the current administration have exposed a deep-seated rot within the central examination machinery.
Major Concerns Raised:
- Systemic Negligence: The Youth Congress claimed that despite repeated warnings and previous irregularities, the NTA failed to implement basic security protocols, allowing “mafias” to play with students’ futures.
- Marginalization of the Poor: Saha argued that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has commercialized education, making it a commodity available only to the rich who can afford leaked papers or elite coaching.
- Financial & Mental Toll: The organization highlighted the plight of families who mortgaged land or took high-interest loans to support their children’s exam preparation, only to see the process derailed by corruption.
The Charter of Demands
The Tripura Youth Congress placed a five-point demand before the government, threatening a statewide agitation if immediate accountability is not established.
The Demands Include:
- Resignation of the Union Education Minister: Taking moral responsibility for the administrative failure.
- Dissolution of the NTA: Scrapping the agency in its current form and returning exam-conducting powers to the respective state governments.
- SC-Monitored Probe: An impartial investigation overseen by the Supreme Court to identify the political patrons behind the leak.
- Compensation for Students: Financial assistance for students from economically weaker sections (EWS) to cover the costs of travel and re-preparation.
- Transparent Re-Exam: Ensuring the fresh examination is conducted without any additional fees or psychological burden on the 22.8 lakh registered candidates.
Upcoming Protest Roadmap
The Youth Congress announced that starting tomorrow, they will conduct sit-in protests at every district headquarters in Tripura. They have also called upon students and parents to join a “non-political” movement to restore the integrity of the medical entrance system.
”This is not just a leak; it is an organized crime against the merit of this country. We will not rest until every student in Tripura who burned the midnight oil gets a fair chance without the shadow of corruption hanging over their heads,” Saha concluded.
