AGARTALA: Prioritizing accessible healthcare for urban traders and local residents, a comprehensive free eye and general health screening camp was organized today at the busy Lake Chowmuhani Market complex in Agartala. The localized medical outreach program aimed to provide free clinical consultations, vision screenings, and baseline diagnostic checks to market vendors, daily wage earners, and neighborhood families who often lack the time to visit formal medical centers.
The humanitarian initiative was officially inaugurated by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by senior medical officers, prominent local traders’ association executives, and social welfare organizers.
Comprehensive Medical Relief at the Grassroots
The day-long health camp deployed specialized medical teams, including experienced ophthalmologists and general medicine practitioners, to cater to the dense market population.
Key Clinical Services Delivered at the Camp:
- Advanced Ophthalmic Screening: Dozens of local citizens underwent comprehensive eye evaluations to detect cataracts, refractive errors, and glaucoma. Free spectacles were distributed to those diagnosed with vision deficiencies.
- Vitals & Non-Communicable Disease Diagnostics: Attending patients received instant screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and metabolic indicators to identify early signs of hypertension and diabetes.
- Free Medicine Distribution: Following professional check-ups, essential medications, multi-vitamins, and corrective eye drops were provided to the beneficiaries completely free of cost.
“Healthy Workers are the Driving Force of Our Economy”: Mayor Dipak Majumder
Addressing the gathering of traders and local residents after lighting the ceremonial lamp, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted that the municipal administration is committed to taking quality medical services directly into commercial and residential hubs.
”Our market vendors and daily laborers work tirelessly from dawn to dusk to keep the city’s economy moving, frequently neglecting their own health in the process. Organizing this free eye and health camp directly inside the Lake Chowmuhani Market ensures they can access high-quality medical check-ups without sacrificing their daily livelihood.
Early detection is the biggest shield against chronic illnesses. Under the direction of our state government, the Agartala Municipal Corporation is not only focusing on roads and water pipelines but is systematically expanding urban health infrastructure so that baseline treatments are available right at the community level,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated to reporters.
The leadership of the Lake Chowmuhani Traders’ Association expressed deep gratitude to the Mayor and the medical team, noting that such targeted market-place interventions dramatically lower the financial burden of healthcare on marginal retail workers.
