Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha highlighted the state’s success in maintaining a lower rate of road accident-related fatalities and injuries compared to the national average. Speaking at a program organized by the Transport Department in Agartala, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of continued vigilance and proactive road safety measures to sustain and improve this record.
The Chief Minister inaugurated 16 new Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances and launched the Virtual Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) and Monitoring System (MT) as part of Tripura’s comprehensive road safety initiative. He stressed that while the state reports fewer casualties from road accidents, every life lost is a tragedy that affects families, the state, and the nation as a whole.
Dr. Saha called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and emphasized the importance of helmet usage driven by safety awareness rather than fear of penalties. He made it clear that helmets are mandatory for both riders and pillion passengers, as they can be the difference between life and death in a road accident.
The Chief Minister commended the role of fire service personnel in emergencies, particularly in transporting accident victims to hospitals. He noted that the new BLS ambulances would enhance Tripura’s emergency response capacity by providing vital first aid during transit.
Dr. Saha reiterated the collaborative efforts of the central and state governments to reduce road accidents and improve public safety. He urged citizens to remain responsible and alert while commuting, emphasizing that prevention is always better than cure.
In conclusion, the Chief Minister called for collective efforts to ensure safer roads for everyone, stating that carelessness should not be the cause of any accident. With a focus on road safety and proactive measures, Tripura aims to continue its success in keeping road accident rates below the national average.
