Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha highlighted the state’s commendable record of maintaining a lower rate of road accident-related fatalities and injuries compared to the national average. Speaking at an event organised by the Transport Department in Agartala, Dr. Saha stressed the importance of continued vigilance and proactive road safety measures to sustain and improve this achievement.
During the event, Dr. Saha inaugurated 16 new Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances and launched the Virtual Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) and Monitoring System (MT) as part of Tripura’s comprehensive road safety initiative. These initiatives aim to enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure timely assistance to accident victims.
While acknowledging Tripura’s success in reducing road accident casualties, Dr. Saha cautioned against complacency. He called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, including verifying the validity of driving licenses, and emphasized the importance of helmet usage for both riders and pillion passengers.
Dr. Saha highlighted the critical role of fire service personnel in emergency situations, particularly in transporting accident victims to hospitals. The newly inducted BLS ambulances are equipped to provide vital first aid during transit, potentially saving lives or preventing lifelong disabilities.
The Chief Minister also underscored the collaborative efforts of the central and state governments in reducing road accidents and improving public safety. He urged citizens to remain responsible and alert while commuting, emphasizing that prevention is always better than cure.
In conclusion, Dr. Saha called for collective efforts to ensure safer roads for everyone, stating that carelessness should not be the cause of any accident. By working together, Tripura can continue to maintain its below-average road accident rate and strive for further improvements in road safety.
