The Tripura government’s initiative to provide leased land and welfare benefits to tea workers in the state has been praised by Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath. This move aims to improve the living standards of tea workers and promote industry growth in the region.
Minister Nath announced on May 23 that tea workers in Tripura are now being offered land on lease for permanent residence, along with benefits such as cooking gas connections and free rations. These measures are part of various projects being implemented through joint efforts of the central and state governments to uplift the marginalized sections of society.
During the inauguration of a new tea leaf sales center and marketing packets at Durgabari Tea Garden, Minister Nath highlighted the significance of tea production as a permanent industry in India. He mentioned that Tripura is making significant progress in this sector, with 10,438 tea workers employed in 52 tea gardens across the state benefiting from government assistance.
Minister Nath also informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 3,339 tea worker families have already been provided with houses. This initiative aims to ensure that tea workers have access to safe and proper housing facilities.
Cooperatives Minister Shuklacharan Noatia emphasized the importance of cooperatives in building a developed India and encouraged greater tribal involvement in the tea industry. He noted that the government is working on devising effective plans to address the needs of the people and promote overall development in the state.
