Tripura is making significant strides in its power sector with plans to ensure dedicated electricity supply for hospitals in the state. This initiative was announced by Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the inauguration of a new 33 kV Sub-Station in Ranirbazar, built at a cost of ₹10.70 crore under the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP).
The Minister emphasized the importance of providing uninterrupted power supply to hospitals to ensure essential healthcare services during power outages. This move is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery in the region.
Minister Nath highlighted the progress made in Tripura’s power sector, noting the increase in electricity consumers from 7 lakh to 10.31 lakh in just seven years. He also mentioned the expansion of key infrastructure, including the extension of 132 kV lines, increase in 33 kV and 11 kV sub-stations, expansion of underground cabling, and installation of prepaid and smart meters.
With a focus on sustainable energy sources, Tripura is now shifting towards solar power to meet its energy needs in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s green energy vision. The state is also taking steps to combat power theft by deploying drone technology to detect illegal connections and ensure fair distribution of electricity.
Minister Nath outlined plans for live-line maintenance to enable technicians to repair faults without cutting power supply. Hospitals like Jirania Hospital will soon have dedicated power lines to ensure uninterrupted services, with similar measures to be implemented in other medical facilities across the state.
“We are prioritizing service, technology, and people’s welfare in the power sector,” Nath stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient electricity supply to all residents of Tripura. He also criticized past governments for failing to adequately develop the power sector and pledged to continue working towards improving the state’s energy infrastructure.
