The Twipra Student Federation (TSF), a prominent indigenous student body in Tripura and member of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), is calling for the appointment of a tribal officer as the Director of the Tribal Welfare Department. In a recent memorandum submitted to Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, the TSF highlighted the importance of having a qualified tribal officer lead the department, citing the need for someone who understands the cultural, social, and developmental challenges faced by the indigenous tribal communities in Tripura.
The TSF argues that the Tribal Welfare Department, which is dedicated to the welfare, upliftment, and development of tribal communities, should be led by someone who can effectively address the specific needs of these communities. They believe that there are competent and experienced tribal officers within the state cadre who have the necessary administrative capabilities and grassroots understanding to lead the department more effectively. By appointing a tribal officer as the Director, the TSF believes that the department’s efficiency will be enhanced, and it will also serve as a morale boost for aspiring tribal civil servants.
The TSF has demanded the immediate replacement of the current Director of the Tribal Welfare Department with a qualified tribal officer. They see this as a crucial step towards genuine tribal empowerment and representation in key administrative roles. The TSF hopes that their concerns will be given due consideration by the government and that necessary action will be taken promptly.
The TSF’s call for the appointment of a tribal officer as the Director of the Tribal Welfare Department is seen as a significant move towards ensuring that the interests and needs of tribal communities in Tripura are effectively addressed and prioritized. The TSF remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of indigenous tribal communities in the region and will continue to push for greater representation and empowerment within the government.
