AGARTALA | July 2, 2026: In a massive institutional push to fortify the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura) campaign, a high-profile state-level awareness assembly was organized today at the Agartala Town Hall. The program was curated by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education (SWSE) to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The convention brought together top state cabinet ministers, civic leaders, administrative chiefs, and law enforcement heads on a single platform to outline a unified, multi-departmental blueprint against narcotics trafficking.
High-Profile Dignitaries Mobilize for Anti-Drug Action
The commemorative event was graced by the Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Shri Tinku Roy, alongside the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Shri Dipak Majumder.
Sharing the dais as distinguished speakers were frontline administrative and statutory heads, including:
- Smt. Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women
- Shri Biswajit Shil, Sabhadhipati of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad
- Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate (DM) of Paschim Tripura
- Smt. Jayanti Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR)
- Shri Tapan Kumar Das, Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department
- Shri Namit Pathak, Superintendent of Police (SP), Paschim Tripura
Integrating Legal Enforcement with Social Rehabilitation
Addressing the large gathering of students, youth volunteers, and social workers, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that eliminating the drug menace requires a dual-track strategy combining ruthless police crackdowns on border smuggling corridors with deep empathetic psychological rehabilitation at the grassroots level.
He noted that the SWSE department is actively expanding its network of de-addiction counseling units and working closely with child protection bodies to shield school-going teenagers from synthesized contraband.
”Observing this international day at Agartala Town Hall with all major administrative wings reflects our iron-clad resolve to eradicate narcotics from our society. The battle against drug abuse cannot be fought by law enforcement alone; it requires a collective social awakening. Our youth must be provided with constructive avenues in sports and technology so they can confidently say no to drugs. I direct all department officers and regional police wings to maintain zero tolerance against traffickers while handling victimized youths with utmost care and rehabilitation support,” Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy declared during his keynote address.
Core Resolutions Outlined by the Institutional Panel
During the interactive sessions, the administrative and security heads settled on several immediate execution parameters:
- Intensifying School-Zone Surveillance: Scaling up joint surprise patrolling by Paschim Tripura Police under SP Namit Pathak around institutional areas, coaching centers, and vulnerable urban hubs.
- Expanding Child-Safety Grids: Coordinating with SCPCR Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma to launch targeted peer-to-peer awareness programs across rural and semi-urban high schools.
- Infrastructure for Rehabilitation: Speeding up the allocation of structural resources under DM Dr. Vishal Kumar to upgrade functional counseling centers and temporary transit care facilities in the western district.
The state-level program concluded with all present dignitaries, led by the Minister and the Mayor, administering a mass anti-drug pledge to the youth delegations, vowing to build a clean, healthy, and progressive Tripura.
