AGARTALA | July 2, 2026: Launching a coordinated political assault on the ruling administration, the Tripura Left Front Committee today organized a high-profile press conference at its central office in Agartala. The briefing, addressed by senior coalition leaders, leveled sharp criticism against the state government over a series of recent issues, including the stagnation of rural welfare benefits, mounting security concerns for women, and the escalating crisis surrounding senior teachers.
The Left Front leadership announced a series of statewide democratic agitations and mass mobilization programs designed to hold the administration accountable.
Flagging Economic Distress and Administrative Stagnation
Addressing the media pools, the senior leadership highlighted the severe rural distress caused by the non-disbursement of social welfare allowances. Citing the recent mass protests in the Hezamara RD Block where desperate villagers locked the block office, the Left Front accused the government of driving marginalized tribal communities to the brink of starvation by withholding multi-month pension arrears.
The coalition also brought up the deteriorating law and order framework, pointing to the horrifying sexual assault incident in Nandanagar and subsequent protests outside the Women’s Commission as proof of total institutional failure.
”We have called this press conference today to expose the absolute failure of this administration on all governance parameters. For four consecutive months, poor and elderly citizens in rural and ADC areas have been denied their basic social security allowances. On top of that, women are no longer safe anywhere in the state, with brutal crimes occurring right under the nose of the capital police. The government is busy with superficial celebrations while the public faces deep mental and financial distress. The Left Front will not remain silent. We are mobilizing our cadres from the block level to launch a massive democratic movement against this anti-people regime,” a senior Left Front leader declared during the briefing.
Key Grievances and Demands Framed by the Coalition
The Left Front panel demanded immediate structural rectifications from the state and central directorates on several urgent matters:
- Immediate Clearance of Welfare Arrears: Releasing all pending social security allowances from March to June 2026 immediately to provide relief to rural beneficiaries.
- Protection for Senior Teachers: Backing the demands of the TGTA and TTA (H.B. Road) teacher bodies, the Left Front urged the central cabinet to bring an ordinance or a parliamentary amendment to completely exempt veteran educators from retrospective TET testing mandates.
- Airtight Legal Action in Crime Cases: Demanding fast-tracked investigations, transparent charge-sheets, and zero political interference in recent cases of gender-based violence, including the Nandanagar assault.
The press meet wrapped up with the coalition warning that if the state administration does not roll out visible solutions within the upcoming week, the Left Front will hit the streets with massive civil blockades across all eight districts of Tripura.
