AGARTALA | July 2, 2026: In a significant escalation of the ongoing movement to safeguard the career security and professional dignity of veteran educators, two premier teacher bodies—the Tripura Government Teachers’ Association (TGTA – H.B. Road) and the Tripura Teachers’ Association (TTA – H.B. Road)—have called a joint press conference today. The media briefing is scheduled for 4:30 PM this afternoon at the “Shikshak Bhavan” located in the Melarmath area of Agartala.
The primary objective of the briefing is to outline the strategic roadmap for a massive statewide teachers’ rally and convention organized on the streets of Agartala on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
Demanding Central Ordinance to Override Supreme Court Verdict Implications
The joint action committee of TGTA and TTA (H.B. Road) is mobilizing thousands of senior teachers whose services have been complicated by recent legal parameters stemming from a Supreme Court verdict regarding Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandates.
The associations are placing a high-level legislative demand before the central government, urging an immediate intervention through one of two structural channels:
- Central Cabinet Ordinance: Promulgating a special executive ordinance to shield long-serving senior educators from retrospective testing rules.
- Parliamentary Amendment: Introducing a targeted legislative amendment to the Right to Education (RTE) Act or related frameworks in the Parliament to grant total, unconditional exemption to veteran teachers from mandatory TET qualifications.
Formal Invitation Issued to Media Pools
Ashis Chowdhury, the General Secretary of the Tripura Government Teachers’ Association (H.B. Road), issued an official media advisory inviting state correspondents, camera crews, and digital news desks to the Shikshak Bhavan assembly this afternoon.
”Our senior teachers have dedicated decades of their lives to building the human resource foundation of Tripura. Forcing veteran educators to clear regular testing grids at this stage of their careers undermines their service record and professional status. We are addressing this press conference today to announce a historic democratic rally on July 5. We urge the central government to permanently resolve this crisis either through a Cabinet Ordinance or an explicit Parliamentary amendment. We request all prominent media houses to send their representatives to Shikshak Bhavan at 4:30 PM today to cover this vital update,” General Secretary Ashis Chowdhury stated in the advisory.
The teacher bodies warned that if institutional exemptions are not institutionalized swiftly, the upcoming July 5 demonstration will serve as the launchpad for a sustained, non-cooperation movement across all government schooling sectors in the state.
