AGARTALA: Launching a direct offensive against the central government over inflation and economic distress, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) organized a high-profile press conference at Congress Bhavan today. Senior party leaders launched a scathing critique against the Prime Minister’s recent public addresses, accusing the top leadership of using divisive political rhetoric to divert public attention away from burning economic realities like crushing inflation and unemployment.
To convert this discontent into a mass public movement, the state Congress unit announced a major week-long agitation that will sweep across various parts of Tripura from May 25 to May 31, 2026.
“The Common Man is Suffocating under Inflation”
Addressing media persons, the Congress leadership highlighted that the prices of essential commodities, cooking gas, fuel, and life-saving medicines are skyrocketing with absolutely zero regulatory intervention from the government.
Key Focal Points Raised During the Press Meet:
- Hollow Assurances: The party alleged that while the Prime Minister delivers high-pitched speeches across national platforms, the domestic budget of the average middle and lower-class family has completely collapsed.
- Market Unchecked: Protesters stated that retail markets are experiencing a relentless upward spiral in costs, making baseline survival difficult for daily wage earners and marginalized groups.
- Diversionary Tactics: Congress claimed that national policy discussions are intentionally being manipulated to avoid accountability on employment figures and fiscal management.
Blueprint of the Week-Long Statewide Agitation
The Pradesh Congress Committee has drafted a structured roadmap to ensure the protests penetrate deep into rural and semi-urban blocks, rather than remaining confined to Agartala.
“We Will Take This Fight to the Streets”: TPCC Leadership
Briefing journalists on the organizational readiness, senior Congress spokespersons made it clear that the upcoming week-long program is designed to break public silence on the state of the economy.
”The Prime Minister’s speeches have become completely disconnected from the ground realities of rural India. While corporate monopolies grow wealthier, the prices of basic food items and medicines are rising uncontrollably. The common citizen is suffocating under this financial burden, but the ruling dispensation chooses to talk about everything except inflation.
From May 25 to May 31, Congress workers will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the public in every corner of Tripura. We will force this administration to acknowledge the economic crisis through a powerful, democratic street-level movement,” a senior TPCC leader stated at the briefing.
The party concluded by calling upon all civil society groups, consumer forums, and common citizens to actively participate in the week-long demonstrations to register their democratic dissent against unchecked market exploitation.
