AGARTALA | July 10, 2026: Writing a glorious new chapter in the state’s agrarian economy and reinforcing its expanding footprint in international trade, the Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Ratan Lal Nath, today officially flagged off a premium export consignment of Tripura’s signature organic produce from the State Agricultural Research Centre at A.D. Nagar (Arundhutinagar), Agartala.
The globally dispatched shipment includes high-demand sample consignments of the state’s indigenous Kalikhasha aromatic rice, premium scented lemons, and the globally acclaimed Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Queen Pineapples, destined for elite international markets.
Coinciding with the high-impact “Destination Tripura: Business Conclave-2026,” the event also served as a major investment hub, with Minister Ratan Lal Nath overseeing the formal signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent national and international agro-investors to pump fresh capital into the state’s horticulture value chains.
Integrating Farmers into the Global Value Chain
The flagged-off consignments reflect the aggressive execution of the state’s flagship agricultural programs and the newly launched central ₹236-crore Mission Queen Pineapple. The core strategy focuses on transforming raw, “organic-by-default” hilly crops into premium global brands, directly bypassing intermediaries to enrich local Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
Addressing senior agronomists, export house representatives, and progressive agrarian leaders at the A.D. Nagar complex, Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted the meteoric rise of Tripura’s agri-export valuation.
”Today is a historic day for the hardworking farmers of our state. From the research labs of A.D. Nagar, our indigenous Kalikhasha rice, aromatic lemons, and Queen pineapples are leaping into the global culinary arena. Over the last financial cycles, our state has successfully exported organic agricultural produce worth nearly ₹17 crore, and global demand is multiplying daily. We have systematically scaled up our grassroots networks from just two FPOs in 2018 to 53 highly active Farmer Producer Companies today. By linking our agrarian clusters with the MoUs signed today, we are establishing a robust ‘Hub and Spoke’ post-harvest cold chain ecosystem. Our primary mission is dual-pronged: radically multiplying the net take-home income of our rural cultivators while establishing Tripura as the ultimate organic food bowl of Northeast India,” Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated.
High-Value MoUs to Modernize Cold-Chain Infrastructure
The newly signed corporate MoUs target structural investments across the sub-divisional agricultural landscape. The partnering agro-industrial groups have committed capital to set up advanced grading, processing, and vacuum-packaging facilities near transit hubs, alongside solar-powered localized cold storage units.
These interventions are designed to drastically compress post-harvest loss margins, introduce digital blockchain traceability for international buyers, and ensure that Tripura’s high-value crops—such as Bird’s Eye chilli, ginger, turmeric, and citrus varieties—reach European, Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian supermarket shelves in pristine, shelf-ready conditions.
