AGARTALA | July 4, 2026: On the auspicious occasion of its foundation day, the Paschim District Committee of the Tripura Working Journalists Association (TWJA)—the state’s oldest professional body of media personnel—organized a voluntary blood donation camp alongside a special organizational session today at the Agartala Press Club.
The dual-event was formally inaugurated at 10:00 AM by the Chief Minister of Tripura, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, who attended the program as the Chief Guest.
High-Profile Dignitaries Mobilize the Media Fraternity
The milestone event witnessed a robust gathering from both the political and media corridors of the state. Sharing the ceremonial dais with the Chief Minister were:
- Shri Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, and Tourism.
- Shri Subal Kumar Dey, Veteran Journalist and Editor of the daily Syandan Patrika.
- Shri Bijay Paul, President of the Tripura Working Journalists Association (TWJA), who presided over the core administrative session.
The medical camp, executed in direct collaboration with a specialized team of doctors and laboratory technicians from the AGMC GBP Hospital Blood Bank, saw overwhelming participation, with as many as 40 active journalists stepping forward to donate blood.

Addressing the large gathering of reporters, photojournalists, and editors, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha highly commended the TWJA for setting a stellar societal example. He emphasized that the media’s responsibility extends far beyond the realm of news reporting into active community welfare.
”Blood donation is the ultimate expression of humanism, transcending all barriers of religion, caste, and professional divide. Our state’s healthcare facilities routinely face critical shortages of blood, leaving patients requiring urgent transfusions in deep distress. Seeing forty members of the state’s fourth estate step forward today to donate blood on their foundation day is incredibly inspiring. I congratulate the TWJA and the Agartala Press Club authorities for this noble initiative and urge the association to turn this into a sustained, regular campaign to ensure our medical inventories remain robust,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated during his inaugural address.
Special District Session Maps Out Journalist Welfare
Following the successful completion of the blood donation drive, the TWJA West District Committee transitioned into its special delegate session. The meeting reviewed a detailed structural roadmap aimed at enhancing professional safeguards, digital skill upgrades, and health insurance provisions for field reporters working across rural and urban beats.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also addressed the panel, acknowledging the immense sacrifices made by local working journalists and assuring full state support in expanding institutional amenities for the media community. TWJA President Bijay Paul concluded the session by expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, reaffirming that the association remains deeply mindful of its social obligations and will continue to execute similar humanitarian campaigns alongside its professional core duties.
