JIRANIA: Sending a stern message against political intolerance and escalating rural violence, former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo Member Manik Sarkar visited the residence of victimized party worker Tapan Das in Jirania today. Das’s house was recently targeted, ransacked, and subjected to a violent assault by a group of unidentified miscreants, leaving his family deeply traumatized.
Accompanied by a delegation of senior regional left leaders, the veteran leader met with the injured worker and his family members, taking a detailed account of the targeted ambush.
A Ground Reality Check
Sarkar’s high-profile visit to the politically sensitive Jirania sub-division comes amid a series of post-poll friction points reported from the outskirts of the West Tripura district. During his hour-long interaction, the former Chief Minister assessed the physical damages done to the property and offered deep emotional and organizational solidarity to the family.
Key Observations Made by the Delegation:
- Targeted Destruction: The miscreants allegedly breached the household perimeter, vandalizing furniture and physically assaulting family members over ideological differences.
- Atmosphere of Fear: Local residents informed the delegation that a climate of intimidation has been systematically created to silence dissenting political voices in the sub-division.
“Muscle Power is a Sign of Weakness”: Manik Sarkar
Speaking to media personnel outside the victim’s house, the former four-term Chief Minister launched a scathing philosophical and political attack on the perpetrators of the violence, emphasizing that true political longevity cannot be achieved through the barrel of a gun or physical intimidation.
”Terrorizing people and beating them up will never help any organization build sustainable strength. On the contrary, relying on violence is the ultimate proof of political weakness and ideological bankruptcy. If you have done genuine work for the public, you should win them over with developmental arguments, not by breaking their homes. This culture of fascism must end immediately for the sake of Tripura’s democratic heritage,” Shri Manik Sarkar asserted.
Demands Placed Before Law Enforcement
The CPI(M) leadership has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the local police administration’s handling of the Jirania incident. Sarkar demanded that the Superintendent of Police (SP) and the officer-in-charge of the local police station shed political bias and immediately round up the culprits named in the First Information Report (FIR).
The party warned that if the administration fails to provide adequate security to vulnerable families in the Jirania sector, they will be forced to launch a widespread civil democratic agitation across the district.
